Photos from the Nature Walk at the Walter Nature Reserve
Doug Bauman, June 27th, 2005
Well we had a great nature walk and identification on Saturday morning. I just wanted to thank everyone; it was a lot of fun for me. My daughter even had fun because one of her young friends showed up as well, but they were more interested in Pokemon than trees and plants. There were about 12 of us.
The following list shows the many plants we identified at the Walter Reserve, in approximate order of finding:
Trees:
American Elm
Black Cherry
White Ash
Hickory, Shag Bark
Paw-Paw
Sassafras
Crab Apple
Hawthorne
Dogwood
Red Oak
White Oak (only one, at the top of the hill over the rise)
Black Locust
Black Oak
Pine, White
Pine, Red (? we were not certain)
Maple, Red
Hornbeam
American Basswood
Devil's Walkingstick (Hercules Club)
Plants:
Fern, Spinulose Wood
Fern, Christmas
Garlic Mustard
Japanese Stiltgrass
Ragweed
Foxglove Beardtongue
Black-eyed Susan
Daisy
Alfalfa (no flowers yet)
Mutltiflora Rose
Poison Ivy (some had never seen vines that big!)
Raspberry, Black
Raspberry, Purple Flowering
Virginia Creeper
This is a great botanical survey with many of the same plants I outlined. I used it to jog my memory, in case anyone was wondering
